A book review that should interest Arch

The country that avoids war and the country that fights but has a hard time winning have been combined. The Swiss made some excellent firearms and the French made some unique and occasionally inspiring ones. We have added the Belgian and Dutch since they are neighbors.

While not the same as the Swiss Vetterli I have, it might be an interesting book.

The Swiss developed the rifle in 1868 (I think) and the Italians adopted a version of it in 1870. The cool part of the Italian history is that they were pressed into service for the first world war as a stop-gap measure due to arms shortages. I wonder how much use they had.

Thank you, Duncan!
