G11 Sight Adjuster

The country that avoids war and the country that fights but has a hard time winning have been combined. The Swiss made some excellent firearms and the French made some unique and occasionally inspiring ones. We have added the Belgian and Dutch since they are neighbors.

G11 Sight Adjuster

Postby DuncaninFrance » Thu Apr 26, 2018 2:48 pm

I have started on the manufacture of a foresight adjusting tool for my Schmidt-Rubin 1896/11 rifle.
First job was to take careful measurements so I can create a wooden pattern and thus transfer the idea onto a metal plate.
I don't have a drill bit the right size for the initial hole ( 18.5mm - 23/32" ) so had to 'mock it up' with a file. Drill bit on order from Amazon.
I have cut a blank from some aluminium plate 8mm thick to work on although it might be a little thin for drilling and tapping the moving thruster so I ordered a small plate of 12mm, that should do it!

Taps arrived today and so job completed.
The adjuster is ambidextrous but I am afraid the final finish is not up to pro standards. Best I could manage with drill bits and files. :SWI: :SWI: :SWI:

Looks good enough to do the job. Now we need a report on how it does in adjusting the sight for the target.
