A pair of .303s....
...from opposite sides of the world. A 7.7x56R British made No.4 and an Arisaka Type 99 7.7x58 to use the metric designations. The No.4 was made in 1941 and the Arisaka in 1940 as a best guess. The Japanese didn't date their rifles but this is in the first 200,000 produced and production started late 1939/early 1940. A similar solution for the arming of soldiers with a robust rifle for the soldier to carry to war. They both did their job and I am fortunate that they have survived the intervening 65 years to be together in my possession. They are both well travelled. The No4 was brought back from Australia and the T99 has found it's way to England via the USA as it was imported from there by the dealer I bought it from.
