Coin collectors

Post by joseyclosey » Mon Aug 25, 2008 1:17 pm

Posting these two 1940 marked German 10 Reichspfennig coins for forum member Kwakajack who found them in his late fathers small coin collection.

Anyone with information on these coins drop in here?

1940 dated with eagle and swastika

Although I'm not much of a coin collector, my Dad is and he says he knows a little about these. They're 10 Reichspfennig coins...that was about the equivalent of a nickel or dime. In fact, the words "pfennig" and "penny" are cognates. They're not in great shape, but don't try restoring them...that hurts the value and gives the coin an almost plastic-like feel. They're worth about $5 each at a coin show, though you could probably get more at a militaria show due to the swastikas. Regardless, I'm sure the sentimental value outstrips that. They're relatively common but nice coins. Enjoy them!
