TIME FOR A NEW TOPIC ME THINKS.........

Post by DuncaninFrance » Thu Oct 09, 2008 1:53 pm

...............

I was thinking about 'collections' and was convinced that all my collections were in fact 'one offs' but then I got to thinking about my photography and then it hit me............ I have been collecting photographic bits, books and cameras for yonks :D

So I am going to have a look - see and get some info together about my subject. First post should be tomorrow I hope. Am going to start with some books ;)

yonks

n. plural noun British informal a very long time.

ORIGIN

THE BRITISH JOURNAL PHOTOGRAPHIC ALMANAC AND PHOTOGRAPHERS DAILY COMPANION1908

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f392/ ... ad03bf.jpg[/pic]

This is one of 34 volumes that cover the years 1908 to 1962. They were part of an extensive library of photographic books that were held by The Huddersfield Photographic Society. When the Society moved from its rooms in the centre of Huddersfield to a base outside the town it had to ‘dispose of ‘ this collection and items that were not wanted by current members were disposed of, many being taken to the tip as they were not in a fit condition to be saved!

Amongst other items that were going to be thrown away were these books. 20 are bound in green material and the others are just hard back bound books. The years covered include 1913,16,17 & 18 and 1939,40,41,42 & 44.

Very interesting to sit and browse through a volume I can tell you.

Sorry45, I don't collect them any more - all my dosh is for shooting now. A Bolsey B2 is worth about $50-$120 depending on condition and accessories I think.
