Have to be Makin' Something!

Post by aprayinbear » Tue Dec 22, 2009 7:42 pm

Seems like I always have to be making something; a boat, a bowl, the occasional bp gun, scrimshawed powderhorns, and most often these days, blacksmithing colonial period knives.

Here's a few pics I thought you might enjoy!

Looks like you are a man of some real creative ability. Thanks for sharing. Is that boat a copy of a local design? Can't remember ever seeing a double ender of like size.

Excellent. I love the burl dish.

Thanks for the kind comments guys. The boat is my rendition of a pirogue and is perfect for the swamps, lakes and small rivers here in the low country of SC. It paddles like a dream through the shallowest of water and is great for fishing or just paddlin' about. Generally I like to use burlwood for my woodturnings, but often pick up disgarded log pieces left alongside the road. My favorite past-time.... making something functional and unique out of nothing. That's probably why I like milsurps; steeped in history, relatively inexpensive, and largely overlooked, but the stories they can tell, an some fine shooters to boot.

Some people get excited when they make a lot of $. I get excited by good friends and a pile of raw materials.
