K98 pics

Post by joseyclosey » Mon Jun 11, 2018 2:53 am

A couple of interesting pics I came across and thought I'd share, obviously K98 rifles and mountain troop kit. The edelweiss cap badges marks them as german Gebirgsjäger.

Interesting photos. What struck me is that the rifles seem to be "stacked" in twos. I'd have thought there would be at least three. Another thing is that K98K Mausers don't seem to come with a stacking swivel or other such designed feature for stacking.

Those K98's have a front ban bottom sling swivel as well as a side swivel unlike the bottom photo of the artistic collection of stuff picture that looks more like one of mine.

I have two K98's I pulled out to see if I could figure it out. One of the rifles is earlier war machined furniture and the other late war stamped furniture, although the bayonet lugs are identical as well as the cleaning rod slot. Couldn't figure it out....unless the cleaning rods hooked together. Still. don't see how they stacked them in twos...unless a third rifle is obscured by one of the two in the foreground. Stacking by the cleaning rod would make it difficult to stack more than two at a time so maybe that explains it....or not.

They do look piled in twos by, I assume, using the the cleaning rods. Having said that the pair nearest the camera appear to be resting on a low wall too.
