Saw an ad......

Post by Niner Delta » Tue Sep 30, 2014 5:11 pm

In todays newspaper there was an ad for a:
"1895 Mauser Carbine MFG, Argentina. $185."
So I called the guy and he said it had a cut-down stock and been "sporterised" for
hunting. The front stock had been cut down but he didn't know if anything else
had been done. He's had it for 25 years and never fired it, didn't even know
what caliber, thought is was "7.7".
Wants $185 but says make an offer..................

Any thoughts???

Only that I would want pictures before I made an offer

I'd wonder about the date. Argentina had a carbine model 1891 and a Cavalry Carbine model 1909. Now Chili had a 1895 carbine. And.....if it is the Chilean model some of those were converted to .308 Nato. Springfield Sporters sold them for $80 each back about fifteen years ago.

The bubbaization of it would turn me off of paying the price that is asked.

I kind of thought about it, but didn't even go look at it. I would like to have a Mauser,
so maybe if I find a decent one I will pay the price............who knows.

Wait until you find one in military config (if that's what you want) and then spend the money. No fun to purchase a rifle and then see another in original config at the range or online and feel let down. As a personal rule I try never to buy disappointment.

Hit the gun places and pawn places around town. You never know what you'll find.
