VZ24

Vern made a post about a barrel band and asked what it was. The answer got me to looking at my Czech VZ 24's . I have three. Two are the "normal" straight bolt variety. They come with sling hardware on the bottom and the side so they could be used by horse or bike soldiers or regular leg troops. The third is a bit different. This one has a bent bolt with a full round bulb shaped knob on the end and a cut out stock. I note this because the later day Yugo M48's, a similar design, had a bent bolt with no stock cutout and a knob handle that was made flat on the inside. The modified rifle has the bottom sling hardware removed and replaced by a two screw plate of the same swivel base size in the butt. Probably this one was intended for specialized troops who had horses or bicycles or some other such reason... maybe military police. I have no idea.
