Magnificent Military Mauser Match Rules &Entries

Post by ajcarey » Mon May 02, 2005 3:24 pm

Okay you slovenly couch potatoes, Spring is in full bloom and it is time to get out and put some holes in paper.

This match is restricted to any military issue Mauser action rifle, any year and any nation. Just for grins and because I have one, the German Commission 1888 rifle is also included. Iron sights only.

The course of fire will be 12 rounds with the best 10 counting. X-ring hits will count 10 points for score and will also be counted separately for use as a tie-breaker.

OTC, milsurp, or handloaded ammunition is fine.

Target: Standard 100 yard small bore target. For those without access, dimensions will be provided.

Match categories:

50 Yards. Offhand. No sling or other unnatural support.

100 Yards. Prone, sitting or bench. Slings are OK, but no other support may be used.

Scores are to be posted on the thread set up for this match in the Mauser forum. Since we are all gentlemen here, benefit of the doubt to dromia, pictures of the targets need not be posted, but in the case of a tie, a posted target picture will take precedence over a non-posted one. If you want/can, please post a picture of the rifle you used. (Everyone seems to enjoy these). If you handloaded your ammo and wish to do so, sharing your load information may be of interest and help others.

More that one entry per weapon is OK in case you had a bad day and are able to have another try.

When posting your score, please identify the weapon used, shooting position and type of ammunition.

Entries must be posted to the forum NLT midnight, July 4, 2005, a date chosen in honor of the American independence from those ugly Enfield rifles.

Nice going, joe. Looks like you got it to go bang enough to do reasonably well. Both of those scores place you at the top of the leader board. Thanks for joining in.

However, while shooting the Kar98az from a trench it entirely appropriate, I believe that the K98k should be shot from behing a hedgerow. ;

I have all of the scores that were posted prior to the Great EZ-board meltdown.

I also went out to the range last weekend for a little bang-bang time. Took the old foggies: GEW 71, GEW 71/84 and the Kommission 1888. All of my rounds went bang cause I had to load my own for those old codgers.

After more or less completing an almost inexhaustable honey-do list, I finally managed to get out to the range late yesterday afternoon for a bit of shooting. Took my oldest Mausers out for a spin. I just wish that I could have shot in the morning. The the targets were in the shade and late afternoon sun, coming in from 10 o'clock, made seeing the sights a bit of a PITA. Also the heat and humidity were downright tropical.

First up, my 1880 Amberg Infantrie Gewehr 1871.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0603/ ... 799885.jpg" style="border:0;"/>

Ammo was handloaded 340 grain PBFN, with 28 grains of Accurate 5744. (Load needs tweeking I think.)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0603/ ... _82_1x.jpg" style="border:0;"/>

Score: 82.1

Next up was the 1887 Spandau Infantrie Gewehr 71/84

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0603/ ... d0fbe6.jpg" style="border:0;"/>

Same ammo as used in the IG 1871.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0603/ ... _80_1x.jpg" style="border:0;"/>

Score: 80.1

Last, but not least, the 1890 Danzig Kommission 1888.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0603/ ... r_1888.jpg" style="border:0;"/>

Ammo was 175 gr cast PBRNGC with 17.0 gr of 2400. (This load needs to be refined also.)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0603/ ... _79_0x.jpg" style="border:0;"/>

Score: 79.0

All targets were shot from the kneeling position in hope that something of a prayerful position would help with my shooting.

Nice shooting, Ole Hairy Faced One. Your score places you atop the leader board. :);

Father's Day and I got a few hours of range time. Just enough to shoot with the 7mm So American Mausers. Don't worry, I did not do any earth shattering shooting.

First up, the 1895 Chilean.

Ammo: PMC over-the-counter stuff. Either this stuff was crap or my skills have gone south.

Score: 85.0

Sad to say, I guess I'm not going to get a chance to participate in this match in time to meet the July 4th deadline, which I wholeheartedly agree is a fine date and should not be extended.

This is especially embarrassing considering all the pissing and moaning I did when the match was announced. Maybe I can shoot a target later and pretend I was there. I really would have liked to shoot this match, since I just picked up a very nice M48A and haven't yet had a chance to take her for a spin.
