Questions about the markings to the left of the 24\47

Post by mouser868 » Thu Jul 08, 2010 8:01 pm

First Time posting here and I'm wondering if anybody can tell me what the marks to the left of the 24\47 on my Yugo are. Also what the mark on the butt stock is. Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the forums. Glad to see your first post.

From the photos I'd say the receiver ring shows, from what I could make out, the AT3 and 44 that says to me the rifle was made into the 24/47 at a large state factory known as Preduzece 44 at Kagujevic Yugoslavia.

The TRZ on the but stands for Tehnicki Remontni Zaod which means "technical repair facility" and is a mark put on when the rifle was refurbished. . The 1. stands for Cacak, Serbia.....I learned this from a brief google search.

My 24/47 shoots really good and has a real smooth action. It is all matching numbers, and where yours has the 1.TRZ, mine has a rack number that suggests it may have been issued at some time. Give us a report on what your rifle is like to shoot. I'll need to get mine onto my take to the range list again....haven't shot it in a long while.

It is still in the load development stages, as of right now it's doing about 1 1\4 inch groups at 50 yards with the load it likes best so far. Gotta do some more experimenting. I'm at this time working with 175 grain PRVI bullets, and 150 grain Sierras.

Actually, you have a Zavod 44 which was the predecessor to the Preduzece 44(Red Banner Works), which is the predecessor to the Zavodi Crevna Zastava Plant near Belgrade. The Zavod markings were used prior to 4 September 1947. Not Rare but uncommon. It went through refurb sometime at the TRZ1 overhaul plant, and then probably placed in war reserve. They are terrific intermediate length M24 Mausers originally made at the CZ plant and FN in Belgium. The Nazis copied many features of this rifle while developing the K98.
