Argentian modello 1891
Argentian Mausers, I have to admit I know very little about them apart from the cartridge which I find fascinating, , 7.65 x 53. I have one on its way to me next week, I am unsure as to condition, sportered or original (Idoubt it) and I picked it up unseen in the sealed bid sale.
I do know that I can sell it for parts and recoup any loss but I really fancy having one as a shooter. I like .311 bullets and mausers so this is an ideal project rifle.
I will have to find some ammo or brass and dies as the only ammo I have seen is an old batch of Norma at the auction house and I dont have the pfennigs spare after buying this.
I suppose I could sell some of the rifles I have.
Or even some of the shotguns?
Anyway when it arrives I'll stick up a pic or two!
All I know at the moment is its serial number.

I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy!

I bought a Peruvian Mauser last year and that is in 7.65x53. The rifle I bought came with 57 Norma cases and a set of Redding dies. I would like an Argentine mauser and also a Brazilian one in 7mm but I have not seen one for sale. I hope the one you bought is a good one.

Well it should be here next week, even if its a poor sporter I will restock it and use it!
As soon as it arrives I'll take pics.

Re: Argentian modello 1891
I make my 7.65X53 brass from .270 Winchester or 7.62X63 (.30-06). I could use 7.92X57 (8mm Mauser) but boxer primed of that without a high price tag is elusive. I do make 7.92X57 from both of the first mentioned.

Its not arrived yet but when it does (poss next week) the pics will be taken! I bit the bullet and ordered the batch of Norma loaded soft point ammo that was on sale at the same place. A bit of a bargain really provided none of it is rubbish!

Re: Argentian modello 1891
Well it was delivered whilst I was out at a training session, thankfully the boss signs for all sorts!
It was a long rifle with matching numbers but it has been bubbad.
The barrel shortened a lot, the receiver D&T'd and fitted with a scope rail and also possibly the bolt handle has been cut and rewelded.
I will put a decent boyds stock on it and use it for deer.
Thankfully it cost peanuts and the ammo was about a 1/4 of what it should have cost me!
It will be checked out this week hopefully and also I will try and find a chance to test fire it!

Nice looking rifle. Looks like the bolt handle has been changed and the front sight, and the stock has been modified. If you wanted to make it look "original" you could pick between the cavalry and the engineer model. In any case what you have is one of a group that isn't seen every day.
I was wondering if it is a small ring or large ring Mauser. I can't tell for sure from photos, although it looks small ring, and I haven't found any text that would say. I know that my Spanish Mauser Carbine is small ring and uses a stock that has the same wrist and butt as your Argentine rifle.

I think they are small ring, either way Boyds website has them specially seat aside for that model so maybe its a fat barrel in a small ring and the receiver is quite slim by comparisom. I will keep it as a sporter and set aside the numbered butchered stock but I will consider restoring one day!

Now that looks like a handy little tool 151, it should make a nice little bambi basher.
Let us know how it shoots.
