A lot of these appear to be slides and may, in fact be hand coloured. The give away is the background in some where there is a darker area. This is created by the fact that a glass slide was 2 pieces of glass with the image created on one by placing photo sensitive chemicals on it and exposing it in a camera. After processing the second, plain class was placed on top of ther image side of the first and the two pieces were held together with some type of tape - passe-partout. If moisture were trapped in the 'sandwich' it showed up as a dark area.

I was skeptical myself as to the color photo claim. However, they look to be vintage photos. Many of them would be hard to to fake without great expense I'd think.

Not in those days Robert. In any case, I only posted it as an interest point having been involved in the restoration of some 1000 glass slides when I was president of the Huddersfield Photographic Society.

Here are a couple of the slides we had in the archive. They were scanned and 'cleaned up'.
