I do use the boiling water after spraying the barrel and bolt with windex(ammonia glass cleaner). Then clean as normal. I find you can run dozens of patches down the barrel and it still comes out with some filth...it takes me a little over an hour to clean one. :(

I use hot...not boiling water... cleaning my BP guns because of the nature of BP. When I clean them I put one end in a bucket of hot tap water with some dish washing detergent and run a cleaning rod with a patch up and down like a butter churn from the high end and the water is forced up the length of the barrel and it cleans out the powder salts. Probably work on a Mosin with smokeless powder to a large extent by just taking out the bolt and letting the muzzle go into the bucket. Never tried it though....I've just used the Hoppe's stuff which is a bit slow going. But....think I'll try it next time.

To end all the dirty patch problems forever, get a can of Ballistol. Mix it 50:50 with water and patch away. When you get to a clean patch, you've arrived. Follow with a dry patch then lube with one full strength Ballistol patch. It's good for the wood too.

Still tweaking the M44 sights. I am loving this little carbine! I bought a Chinese SKS with scope and shot that this weekend too...its great to not have to reload so much or cycle the old bolt, but I still think the M44 is my fav!

I bought these targets online and got them cheap because they are 'seconds'. I couldnt see anything wrong with them. They are kind of small, 5.5" but still ok. These were shot at 50 yards with the M44. My tuna can is empty now...time to buy more x54!

Shot my M44 at 200 yards yesterday. Once I found the cardboard I actually was able to hit it with some regularity...I love my M44...dont tell the missus ;)
