All thats left is the waiting
Been looking a Hungarian PU scope and mount to replace the Russian one on my M52 and now all that's left is the wait.

Is it true that if a Mosin sniper scope frame is milled it isn't vintage and if it's is cast it is likely war time made for a real sniper?

No, both war time , post war , and some recent reproduction scope mounts are milled Robert. war time mounts will have the machining marks on the "inside " ( RH side) of the mount, while the reproductions will have the machine marks on the "outside ( LH side) of the mount. All cast are reproduction mounts and are either in steel, or aluminum, and the aluminum mounts tend to crank due to the rifles recoil.Niner wrote:Is it true that if a Mosin sniper scope frame is milled it isn't vintage and if it's is cast it is likely war time made for a real sniper?

Snipers are great, a lot of fun to shoot, and loaded with history. I have a Finn Captured Russian PEM sniper coming that should be here either late this week or early next.dhtaxi wrote:Nice. A sniper is on my wish list next month all being well.

Mine..as far as the scope goes.. has to be after war... one of those "who knows why made ?" kind. It's got machine marks on both sides of the mount. The question in my mind is " Were these made for the milsurp collector trade" or were they made for possible stockpile filler intended potentially for Iron Curtain clients.
