Repro 42 VKT M39 SOV
Some firearms are just unattainable to most collectors no matter how much you may wish otherwise, and this is one of them. I have always liked the Finnish M39 SOV's and M39/43's, but with less than 200 of the SOV's and 500 of the M43's having ever been produced the odds of ever acquiring one was zip.
Luckily you can still buy the parts to make a reproduction SOV so my plans where to build one, that is until this one popped up for sale a couple of weeks ago.
Its a 42 VKT M39 (the correct year for the SOV) with an accumounts base, mount, and scope set up. The setup is pretty nice with the only issue being the turret locations on the Accumount scope being to far back the scope compared to the originals. Since the SOV came with either a PE or PEM scopes, and originals are still reasonable I plan on finding a nice one to put on it and keep the accumounts for another project.

Nice. I sold one of my M39's recently. I still have one left. Nothing rare about it....that I'm aware of anyway. Standard straight bolt and never was a sniper as far as I can tell.
Brings to mind a guy named Darrell. He lived about 60 miles from me and made "scout mounts" for Mosin Nagants. Hooked up on the original sight base. Met him once. He had an engineering background and his mounts were rock solid....although I never got around to buying one from him when he was making them. He did pretty well with them I think. Used to be well known on many of the gun boards in the glory days of internet milsurp boards.

Re: Repro 42 VKT M39 SOV
Just checked on the old ParallaxBill's site where Darrell sold them, no activity from Darrell
for many years. Too bad, I wanted them for my 91/30 and M38, so I emailed him a couple of times
many years ago and he said he would let me know, if and when he started making them again.
Never heard back......
He also made them for M39 & K31.

Peace is that brief, quiet moment in history.......... when everybody stands around reloading.

Yep, Darrels Mounts are legendary in the Mosin Nagant community, like you say, rock solid.

Finally got to get my SOV out to the range, and I am quite pleased so far.
