Are these caliber a reloading only option or can you get factory ammo.

Can you get cases etc without any hassle.

Reloading dies are about 125€ for 30-284W. 20 commercial rounds are about 32€ I think. I intend to re-load in the long term. Will post details when I eventually get there.

It gets better.

Post by DuncaninFrance » Sun Apr 15, 2007 11:07 am

Had a long chat with my mate Alain at the range today. There is a company here in France called ESP http://www.espfrance.com/ who sell Redding re-loading gear which Alain swears by. They are on holiday at the moment but I am going to e.mail them for some prices later in the month.

Alain has all the kit for re-loading so all I will need to start with will be dies, brass and bullets. He has changed his powder to Vihtavuori so I am going to 'look after' his Tubal of which he has a fair amount in stock!

Things are looking better and better.

20th May!

Post by DuncaninFrance » Fri Apr 20, 2007 4:16 pm

Had a call from Frankonia today confirming receipt of my order and deposit cheque. Delivery is expected on or about May 20th.

Also discussed loads with the guy and he suggested Sierra 150/180 grain HPBT Match King bullets with either Vihtavuori N150 or Tubal 3000 or 5000 powder.

I have also e.mailed a company called ESP in Isère for Redding re-loading die prices and their suggestions for bullets/powder.

Great adventure this is turning out to be

Forget about any .308" Bullets in russian Mosins, especialy BT.

Go get some Lapua D166(45grn N140) oder S&B .311" Spitzer 150grn(48grn N140) or some Sierra Prohunter .311" 180grn (45grn N140).

For dies, RCBS will do, but a special made Lee Collet is even better.

Exact data!!

Post by DuncaninFrance » Sat Apr 21, 2007 8:56 am

My pal Alain just called and said he had found some Lee info for me so am collecting it tomorrow at the range.

UNFORTUNATELY I have to take my wife and mother to a garden plant sale in the morning then to some friends for lunch so this weekend is shooting free

Alain also said he was going to phone Frankonia and get them to let us have an exact barrel measurement so he can work on a bespoke load!!

I think he is having more fun than I am with this project :D

Will be interested in your results Chris, have a great day.

My friends have loaded for me the D-47 and the D-166 and they are great shooting projectiles.

The Barnaul is crap, lousy grouping, over 10cm at 100m out of my B-barrel M39.

Seems nothing can top the D-cartridge
