The striping of the wood isn't shown well in these photos---too bad, but I can't fix it. Anyway, here's the Tula mark---

The Mystery "P"---

Matching bolt---

This band was still pinned when I got the rifle---had to unpin to clean off the grease/sand/seed husk mixture that was jammed into every crevice---

A better view of the stripes---

With a clip of the 1917 Remington rounds---

Paid $200---mainly because of the bore and the fact that the rifle was screaming to come home with me.

Ok. You got me curious about the "P"
Can't find it mentioned by itself any place. There is a P26 and P 27 meaning relined barrel, in association with an S mark meaning Salerno where is was done. There is the long word Puolustuslaitos used only for a few weeks in 1942, meaning Defense Department. There is a P in a diamond meaning Poland. There are some other dead ends.
I give up......for now.

Niner,
I posted this at gunboards, too, with a direct query about the "P"...the post is going to fall off the bottom of that forum soon without a nibble on that one.
If this is a relined barrel, I can't find a seam at the muzzle and the Puolustuslaitos mark looks like this.
