Another old Mosin for me

Post by awo425 » Thu Jun 04, 2009 2:38 pm

Nothing special, just a ordinary m/91 made in 1904 in Tula, reworked by the finns possibly several times:

Barrel is good, 1/2 " counterbore, maybe I will take it to the range this weekend too.

They all are a bit special to me Chris. :D
Great find.
Let us know how this old war horse performed on the range.

OK, had the long thunderstick with me to the range today, the rearsight is a little wobbly, for got to push it to the right on one shot, that explains the flyer. The hole in teh 4 ring was already on that target, 10 schot of my copy of the wartime D cartridge, moving the 200grn D166 at around 745m/s:

You appear to be an excellent shot, Chris!
I need to learn to shoot that well.
What is the proper or preferred repair for a loose Konolov rearsight?
One could peen the hole smaller for a better bite, or the holes could be drilled out to a larger size & a larger pin installed. Problem is, as the pin gets larger, the metal surrounding it gets thinner & weaker.
You have excellent taste in rifles, Chris!
I need to get out to the range soon to shoot my old M91's.

Practice is everything, I was way better, when I took part on championships. But I quit that, too many guns to play with :D
Trainig with always the same gun is boring.

There are several ways of tightenig up the rearsight, I will try to bent the base a little, worked on another m/91, whos rearsight was even more wobly than on this one.

m/91 are fun to shoot, even more, when you fix bayonette!
I have a 1917 PTG, that only shoots well when the pigsticker is on

That is some great shooting Chris.
I have to buy myself a couple of those D166 bullets.
Heard a lot of good things about them.

Those D166 are real good, this m/91 has a groove diameter od .314" and even than the .310" D166 fly well.
Try Huntingsport in Luxemburg for the D166.
