An old,sporterized Mosin.
1930 91/30,hex receiver,at the risk of getting run off with pitchforks I kinda like it as it is,but I may put a M44 stock on it,refinish is a must for this old gent, ether park or maybe a flat black,park-like teflon....
But I dunno yet, front sight is a tad boogered so it'll need a fix,and that bolt~has to go,I'll get another bolt body with a straight bolt and be fine.
I wasn't shooting too far here, about fifteen,no more then eighteen yards and it's shooting a bit low, even with the rear sight brought up to 400.
A testament to how well a Mosin works:the mag spring is broken, they stuck a brass spring in place of the upper one and it was *PFFT* so I ripped it out, also the pin for the upper half of it is gone and a small, bent at one end nail is holding it in BUT!
It still works ok,ejects all but the last round and fires off without a hitch-with those parts gone you'd think it'd choke, but the Mosin just keeps chugging along! tough old SOB is what it is
I can see I'll like the M44 I have coming in.

OMG!
Krull, that is NOT a 91/30!
That is a much more desirable & valueable dragoon rifle(The shorter version of the M91)
I have restored several of these.
For the present time, keep all of the parts together & candyman & I will help you put her back in fighting trim.
candyman has a few late dragoon handguards that I gave him to repair.
I gave him my last dragoon stock, but I may be able to find another.
Dragoon barrel bands are harder to find. I have found none yet.
Restore that grand old dragoon!

Re: An old,sporterized Mosin.
Really? I know a surplus guy was after it and said it was a rare one,but I doubt that front sight is original, and what of the bent handle?
But I tell you what,I trust you and if you're willing to get me the parts I'll restore it to it's old self and do zip to it otherwise,no refinish,no new M44 stock-nada just give me the parts and I'll set it right.
Sound good? I'd rather it be original then anything.
BTW I got it for $100.......
ETA:
Also needs the pin for the upper part of the mag spring, the spring itself and a screw for it.
And I'm keeping it,I love the size of it,it'll be nice to have a 20in M44 and this 23 or so inch Dragoon rifle.

Re: An old,sporterized Mosin.
In my excitement, I failed to study the first picture.
I now see that the barrel has been shortened.
A full restoration is not possible.
While a nice 91/30 will run about $100.00, an intact dragoon will usually fetch about $350.00
Most M91 dragoons in the U.S. came here by way of Spain (SCW) or Finland.
Your 1930 Tula is a very common dated late dragoon with production ceasing in 1932.

Re: An old,sporterized Mosin.
That's ok,I'm gonna go ahead and give the gun a second life, new front sight, new stock, new finish and make it my friend.
We're already bonding as-is so it won't be hard
