Heckler & Koch HK91

Post by Niner Delta » Sat Apr 22, 2017 9:49 pm

Does anyone here have an original HK91 made in Germany, and not one of the clones....???
There were 48,000 imported between 1974 and 1989, then they were banned. But the pre-ban ones
are still legal to own.

Kinda hard on your shoulder for target shooting I'd think in 7.62x51 Nato. I found a H&K MR762 for sale, same caliber in an AR15 look, for $3525. Wonder what the imports sold for back when? I see somebody had a HK91 on Gunbroker for less than half of the MR762.

Yes, a little hard on the body...... .... But I couldn't resist the deal I got on it.....
This is stamped .308 because it is the civilian version of the G3 military full auto 7.62x51 NATO round.
Seems the only real differences between the G3 and HK91 is welding something in the trigger assembly and
eliminating the full auto position on the selector switch to make it semi-auto only.
On Gunbroker the Buyitnow prices start at $2700 for a real HK91 (non-clone) and goes up to.... $ridiculous....
There are several being bid on, so who knows what they really sell for, but it's a lot more than I have invested... ;)
This one is a 1980, and it sat in 2 previous owner's gun safes and seldom fired, it is just like new at 37 years old.
Have also learned that everything associated with the name H&K is expensive, including the ammo if you want
brass case. I did, and paid around 48¢ a round (delivered) for German military surplus, but I figure that 1000 rounds will last
me a long time.........
The only thing cheap is the steel or aluminum surplus magazines, less than $5 each delivered, but the new plastic
ones are very expensive.
And it came with the older, but nice, Leupold 2X7 Vari-X II scope and mount, 4 mags and 100 rounds of ammo.
The guy I got it from must be the Godfather...... He made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

Did any of you guys use the G3 when you were in the military, back in the day???

Now that's an investment in ammo. Look forward to a report on how it shoots. Congrats.

I seldom buy less than 1000 rounds at a time of any ammo, bulk rates and lower shipping pays off
in the end. It will be at least a week for the accessories and ammo I ordered to show up, then will
give it a go..........

Finally made it to the 50-yard range last week.... (normally don't go out into the woods by myself)......
The recoil isn't as bad as I thought it would be, have read that is because of the locking lug recoil, which
I still don't fully understand how it works, but as long as it does.........
Because I had used a laser bore sight, it started out almost on the money, on the silhouette (18"x12") target.
The round targets are 8", using a benchrest, a little high but maybe it will be closer at 100+ yards.
The last target is using the bipod and a 30 round mag, bought 2 of the 30 rnd mags and found them to be poor quality,
although they did work. "Rapid fire" I could come back on target fairly quickly with the bipod.
A great marksman could make this a real shooter out to several hundred yards, but sadly, that's not me.......... :(
However, with the lower than expected recoil, it is one of the most fun guns I have shot.
Have added the bipod, rubber butt pad (both HK=$$), and 30 rnd mag. This is how it looks now......

I wish there was a 100 yard, or more, range around here. There is only the 50 yard, and if you don't
like that, it's out into the woods you go.......
There are some good shooting spots in the woods, but I don't like to go shooting out there alone.
I mean, what if my gun went off while I'm looking down the barrel for a stuck bullet.........
