With the GPMG, prior to the 500yds section rundown, North East Skill at Arms Meeting, Catterick ranges 1988.

I have always liked those. No wonder it's being used by my brother's in arms today.

How about a few more pics:

Pic #8 at the end of the pic : MAG on stand.No mistaking that buttstock.It belongs to my MG dealer friend. I grew up with M60's and have never fire a FN until this one in the pic.

I only ever fired the GPMG in the SF role once, the range was something like 1500yds, the target was an old AFV, but i seem to remember our tripods were a bit more sophisticated than those in the Indian picture. It felt kind of strange not useing the sights, but sitting behind the gun watching the tracer falling onto the target was an interesting experience.

Seeing the (I presume) Pakistani GPMGs with the stub butts reminde me of being a kid again.

As a youngster in the ACF (early 1970s), we used to use the ranges at the (then) Guards Training Depot, Purbright.

Even as cadets we could always tell when a new batch of Guards recruits had been through the GPMG course, as there were always one or two of them with tapes supporting broken noses in the squad - I get the feeling that it was the way the instructors got their jollies... ah memories.
