New Barrel Vise and Wrench

Post by riceone » Mon Jul 16, 2007 7:22 pm

I change a good many barrels on Japanese rifles and some just do not want to come off. Friend brought me two T30 barreled receivers and wanted barrel taken out of one and put in the other. I could not get either of them out with the tools I had been using. So I made a new vise and wrench. I used 2" square stock and machined a hole in the middle to fit the chamber area and flange of the Japanese barrel. T38', T99's, T30's and T35's are all the same profile. Used 5/8" find thread cap screws. riceone.

New Vice and Barrel Wrench

Post by riceone » Mon Jul 16, 2007 7:28 pm

Then I made a new receiver wrench. Since I will only be working with Japanese stuff I made it to fit them. Took a peice of 1" x 3" bar and cut off a peice about 3" long. Bored a hole in the middle to fit the contour of the receiver (all are the same dia. also). Bored holes for the clamping screws and tapped the bottom half. Sawed it in to and faced both sides off. Then I turned a square slot to fit the lug on a T99 and in the cap side I put a slot to hold the round recoil lug of the T38.

New Vise and Receiver Wrench

Post by riceone » Mon Jul 16, 2007 7:32 pm

This set up worked fine for the T38 and T99 but when I tried it on the T30 I saw that I was about the shear the recoild lug off. So I turned the wrench over and welded a short peice of 1/2 x 1/2" key stock. This would fit on the bottom of the receiver and extend over the flat of the front of the magazine slot. With a large hammer I was able to screw the receiver off the barrel.

barrel replacement

Post by 6MM-Intl » Fri Nov 16, 2007 11:50 pm

I have a similar setup to yours.

??? do you have any extra decent condition T 38 barrels you might want to part with? CVarbine or rifle is not important, want a good shooter.

I have a well worn Koishikawa with a rusted out bore measuring .266-.278 that throws some good keyhole groups of 1" at 100 yards. Im also toying with the idea of using 270 bullets and expanding/necksizing to 270 win.

Carcano bullets (.268) are way too expensive.

Let me know

Thanks

Barrels for Japanese Rifles

Email this guy Don Voigt "donvoigt@hotmail.com". He is a friend of mine and sells barrels and any other part you might need. I don't think I have an extra. riceone.
