OWLCAM 2017

I started this forum for any collecting hobby and it turned into my camera collecting and using forum. I use it mostly to keep a record of my photo adventures. Nobody but me seems to have photo adventures that visit here....but however. I have so many cameras now that I forget which is which and which ones work and which ones don't. If you have cameras and adventures you would be welcome to post here.

OWLCAM 2017

Post by DuncaninFrance » Sat Jan 14, 2017 3:31 pm

First images of the New Year, we have a mating pair again AND this time, the camera also has sound - fantastic

I have decided to prevent other birds nesting in the barn this year as last year both Blackbirds and Magpies were obviously detrimental to the Owls ....when I checked the nesting box this month I found 4 unhatched eggs and I am certain that the female Owl was frightened away before she could hatch the brood.

It's GREAT to have them back..................

Both Owls are now regular visitors to the barn at night. I am re-positioning the camera so it misses the roof support  .........

A friend of mine works at a nature center in Howell Michigan as a volunteer on weekends feeding animals and such tasks. . The center takes care of injured animals of all sorts. At this time of the year as a fundraising thing he is one of the tour leaders who conduct night owl spotting trips. Not injured owls in captivity. He takes recordings of the two species of owls that frequent the area this time of year and he plays the calls to see if there is a response for the tour takers amusement. He sent me this link to some audio calls for the local species.

I could tell from the calls and the photos that the pair that are around my house some times of the year are the great horned owl. I think they cull the squirrel population.
