US has refined it's draft plan. Single men first...and low life married men who live off their wives or don't support their children....or maybe don't go to church on Sunday also included. Five levels of potential drafted talent from most likely to only if hell freezes over likely.

Officers of states or United states are in category five ...naturally. People who made the rules didn't want to draft any political office holders. The elected officials who made the rules were needed out of harms way....... to continue to make up the rules.

Big bond push on in October of 1917. Buy a Liberty savings bond in the Liberty Loan drive and equip a soldier..... sorta equip. No uniforms, hats, boots, socks, underwear, leggings, canteens, canteen covers, back packs, blanket rolls, rations, first aid bandages, rain gear, coats, etc, etc, etc.

Not sure what "transportation" cost is....probably it's the shipping and handling charge of the items getting them to the Army.

I think $3 is way too much for that worthless helmet........

Peace is that brief, quiet moment in history.......... when everybody stands around reloading.

It's Liberty Bond day all over America. A Seattle paper fills the whole front page....less an almost second thought headline.

Some American soldiers are in the front line trenches for the first time. The first artillery round is fired by an American and the shell case is going to Wilson for his edification and amusement.

Connect the dots. The US isn't very good at it. The Liberty Bond drive was a big success. Fuel for the war is something they take pride in. But American "Sammie's" haven't gotten into it beyond brief visits to quiet parts of the front line as instruction....yet. Both images from front page of one newspaper.

Inventions of war ideas are pouring in. This was before the military industrial state had gotten so strong that Eisenhower warned about it in the 50's. By the end of WWII the industrial manufacturing segment had grown enormously and each had their own highly skilled R&D departments. This was still the age of individual genius like Edison and Bell......and Rube Goldberg.

Germans have a reassignment to submarine problem among the Navy personnel. It is dangerous duty for officers who have to break the news.

After a successful 5 billion dollar war bond drive this is in the newspaper showing foreign lines of credit since the start of America's involvement.
