Milsurp After Hours

Hello all.

Went to Germany a couple of weeks ago to pick up 2 pistols and a Pedersoli muzzle loader.
I took some pictures of one of the two pistols today.
It’s a 1952 TT-33 manufactured by Izhevsk and it looks fantastic.

Here are a few “nice to know things` about the TT-33

* The TT-33 is designed by Fedor Vasilievich Tokarev (*June 14th 1871 †March 6th 1968)
* The TT-33 started out as the TT-30 and was introduced to replace the Nagant revolver.
The Tokarev pistol did not replace the Nagant, both weapons were used next to each other.
* TT stands for “Tula Tokarev” but Izhevsk (among other manufacturers) produced TT-33’s too.
After some modifications in the early 1930’s to make the pistol easier to produce and maintain it was adopted as the TT-33.
The most noticeable modification was that the locking lugs go all around the barrel for easier and cheaper production.
* The TT-30 had locking lugs only on top of the barrel.
* The TT-33 is chambered for the 7.62x25 Tokarev cartridge.
This cartridge is based on the 7.63x25 Mauser cartridge used in the Mauser C-96 pistol.
* The TT-33 has no safety but when you put the hammer on “ half-cock” it can be used as a safety.
* The TT-33 was replaced by the Makarov pistol in 9x18 Makarov in 1952.
* In 1954 production of this legendary pistol ended.
* Total production: 1.700.000

Nice Tok you got there Martin, most Tok's in this country have that pesky ATF mandated safety added to them.

Never bought one of these but I did get to shoot one pre pistol ban/theft. A now defunct local dealer brought stacks of Russian kit into the UK in the 80s.
This was his advert in Guns Review, guess prices have changed a lot since then.

The Romanian and other "Iron Curtain" TT-33's are going for $200 in the states right now and have been around that price for a while. I bought mine in 2003 and paid, with shipping, $203.97. However, a genuine Russian made pistol without the bogus added safety would probably fetch a price in the US, if you could find one, that would buy several of the messed with Polish and Bulgarian, Romanian and Yugo versions. I'd guess the only such rare pistols in the US would be very likely Vietnam trophy bring backs.

Usually there are German proof marks on all weapons used in Germany.
Not on this pistol.
That's why it could only be bought by collectors and dealers.
No German proof mark means no shooting on a German range.

This one ends up in my collection.
It will never see the range.

Very nice advert Joe.
Prices have changed indeed since then.
I have to add that the price of my TT-33 was relatively low because it had no German proof marks.

@ Robert:
No TT-33's with added safety over here except the ones that left the factory with one like the Hungarian Tokagypt.
Price of a relatively nice looking Russian TT-33 is between $160.00 and $225.00.
I paid $160.00 for my TT-33, shipping and export included.
