Saw this 200 page Navy recognition book for sale on craigslist so I bought it. It is a 1950 classified book that the Navy
printed for use to recognize ships. No idea if every ship was issued one of these, although where else would you use it.
It was fun to go through as most of the ships were built for WWII and many US ships were in other countries Navy.
Surplus after the war was everywhere. I should have taken a photo of the biggest boys Iowa Class Battleships.
I put the HMS Vanguard in there for you, Duncan. The countries that had "Minor Navies" are listed in the back of the book,
and it is obvious why, mostly coastal patrol boats. Sweden is listed as a minor Navy but photos not in that section,
it's listed in the big boys section in the front. Government workers. ......

Do you wonder if the FBI might come looking for you for having secret classified material? :loco:

A film was made of the disposal of HMS Vanguard. As it was the last battleship of the Royal Navy, it should have been preserved but who would have funded it? Not much spare money about in those days.

If the FBI shows up, I'll just tell them that I bought it at Joe Biden's garage sale......
Pretty sure none of those ship are still in service, maybe a few museum pieces.
The woman I bought it from said her husband bought it at a garage sale years ago, he has since passed.
We got to talking and her husband in 1969 was a combat medic with the 9th Div., but she couldn't remember
what unit he was with. Last name Anderson and I already forgot his first name.
