Anyone ever "hump" one of these?

I know this guy is not exactly a "war machine", but maybe he is ...
Rhodesian Light Infantry about 1974 w/ a MAG 58 (M240B to us Yanks)
I have been around one in private hands (MG Dealer). I always thought they were outstanding. So any of you Black Watch,Irish Rangers or Queen's Own- types deal with this bad boy ?

I was a Gimpy gunner for a couple of years in BAOR and again back in COP in NI for a couple more! They lied to me I wanted an LMG and they gave me a beasty.

As a kid in the Caddet force, we used to used the ranges at (what was then) the Guards Recruits Depot at Pirbright and had to opportunity to fire these once or twice, but it was always amusing to watch the Guards recruits squads. One could always tell which groups had been on the range for the first time with the GPMG, as there was always one member with surgical tape over his nose. It seemed to be a standard instructer's trick to try and get at leat one recruit to break his nose with the recoil from the gun on its tripod (metal stub butt rather than the shoulder stock used in the 'light' mode).

I have bopped myself in the nose with the heel of an M1 receiver on more than one occasion.

Did you have to "walk' back to Stanley ?

Fozzy was our gunner and a wee lad to boot. We walked or rather tabbed from San Carlos where the landings took place to Stanley a distance of 80 miles with no roads in 1 day and 1/2. Just packed rifles ammo and a bergan with enough for 3 days. walk 50 minutes stop for 10 and do that from dawn till dusk.

Now this weighed in at 36 lbs without ammo a full 12 lbs more than the GPMG. You dont want too many of these trust me! the only consilation being the SMG.

History channel had a show on the Falklands a while back. Seems like everything that could go wrong did.
My hat is off to anyone who made that march and then went right at the enemy at the end of it the way you did.
