gun show find
I bought a pretty nice Mosin Nagant this week end at a local gun show. the seller had me laughing as he was trying to sell it as a sniper rifle. I finally talked him down to $99, I could have bought one from Centerfire systems for $89 but shipping was another $15 so I think I did ok.
It is a Tula dated 1938 but it has a hex receiver so I believe it to be a 1938 rebuild, Haven't broke it down yet to see the tang date, will do that tonight.

Re: gun show find
after further investigation in better light it is a 1936 tula not a 38 rebuild as mentioned earlier.
Re: gun show find
You did good on the price. Also good to have a hex receiver 91/30 in the collection.
I got one in 2006 from Century and paid as much. It is dated 1935 and marked as a refurb. Mine came with a sling too, as yours seems to have from the photo.

Range report
took several guns to the range today and killed a bunch of paper plates
the newest 91/30 is a keeper. at 100 yds with factory ammo it shot a 3 rd group under 2,5 inches but about 11 inches high. I then cut a piece of black wire insulation and slipped it over the front sight making it 1/8 " taller then the next group was almost on bullseye but still about 1 inch high. this is good enough for me at this time in my life.
: If I can hit a target the size of a clay pigeon at 100 yds with a 74 yr old rifle using iron sights and eyes that are more than half a century old as well I am damn happy!
it did not like my cast bullets as well as factory but it ate up my reloads that I used 150 gr spire point bullets

Never mind the 11"high.
What matters is the 2.5" group.
Congrats on a great find and with pair of very good over half a century old eyes.
Met vriendelijke groet,
Martin
