He was there for the ABLE and BAKER tests. He did die from cancer but that was at age 79 and after smoking 2 packs a day since his Navy days. The Appalachian was the headquarters for the Press. What was interesting was back in the '80's when there was number of news stories about the atomic veterans...

Well I have continued to look but the only one I have come across that resembles your image is the cutter Snohomish it but lacks the extra deck and gun up forward.

That wasn't the one I was looking at, different ship. I was looking at the one in the 1914 Jane's Warships of WW1 but the picture was dim. oh well.

Kind of looks like the cutter Acushnet but the picture I have is pretty poor for comparison purposes.

I have been lurking for a while. The various ships and planes have been interesting and
the monitor and HMS Ganges baffling. I got lucky with Furious because I was looking at
Burt's British Battleships of WW1 and it had that picture.
