Well I ended up buying two handguards, one from a guy on another forum and one on Gunbroker. The one from GB was a good one and is on my M48 now. Turns out that the one from the other forum is for a 24/47, not for an M48 (based on measurements I got from Niner's post). But it is still a nice handgua...

Wow, I just gave one away that was missing the clip about 2 months ago. I can reuse my clip and screws, so no clip would be fine with me. Is your friend using the one you gave him? Just wondering. I have read on other forums that the 24/47 handguard will work, although it is slightly different.

It sounds like a Russian capture. I have one myself and it is a fine rifle. The Russkies removed the lock screws, sight protectors, and reblued (blacked) everything including the butt plate.
