M1 Garand

I was taking some photos for a post on the K98k and took some photos of the US battle rifle that went to war against the German battle rifle.

Considering the famous KA CHING!! flying empty clip factor I had to take a few shots of the ammo.

That KA CHING and the 'It will get you killed' was total rubbish and has been proved so many times..............Wish i could get my hands on one!!!!

Maybe the KA CHING would just be a warning that another clip was going into the chamber. The get you killed thing regarding rifles making sounds was applied to the Arisaka rifle. It came with a steal dust cover over the action that would rattle. Some Japanese are said to have discarded them. At least the Garand clip wouldn't have made any noise until eight rounds were on the way. If a soldier couldn't kill his target in eight rounds the sound of the KA CHING wouldn't be his worst problem. :D

Nice rifle Robert, got 3 of them, a M1d, M1c, and a SA 1944 M1 that was fired by Local Veterans Honor Guard at his funeral. The disabled the gas system and had to rack it for the 1st 2 rounds, but left the 3rd shell in the rifle. That one will never be shot again.
