Wife and I got up early this morning to go look at a very rare sniper rifle about 2 hours from home, and while it was everything I had hoped for the seller and I couldn't agree on a price so we headed home with a stop off for Lunch. About 15 minutes after we arrived home the mail lady rang the doorbell and needed me to sign for a package. I couldn't think of what it was but after signing for it I saw the shipping label, and it was my ART II scope and mount from Iron Sights Inc.. I had forgotten all about ordering this early last month so off to the shop I went to put it on my Mid 80's Springfield M1A. I have to say I am quite please and hope to get it to the range and get it sighted in to at least 200yds.

Oh and it looks nice with the M40

That's an industrial strength serious looking scope for sure. Nice looking stock on that rifle you put it on too.

That the ARTII scope Robert, replaced the Vietnam era ART scope about 1976. They where used up until the 2nd Gulf War and are still considered one of the better designed sniper scopes.

Went through basic with the military version of one of those. Heavy, wish it had been an M-16.....
It's a great looking rifle you have there and the scope really sets it off.
I have no place to shoot at 200 yards so it's a good thing I'm not a hunter.

I remember a sniper in Vietnam with a starlight scope modified for use as a rifle scope. From a video I found the scope weighted in at about 6 pounds to go with the rifle that was something like 10 pounds. From the video I found It looked like it was probably a danger to the eye of the shooter to some extent. Wonder how many former snipers have only one eye?

I remember a story from my time in Vietnam about a particular sniper and a target he was anxious to shoot but I won't tell it as he didn't shoot anybody on at least that occasion... thankfully...... as it turned out.

Here's the link to the video.
