Just picked this up at an on-line estate sale. Is it a Japanese Type 1?

It looks like a Type I to me. I wish I had one but you never see them where I am.

Regards
Peter.

As Pete said you have a Type I and a very nice one at that. Some say they are more accurate than the T38's cause they have a tighter chamber and I think regular fifling rather than the Japanese medford type. As far as I know there is only one different variation and that is some have a 1" shorter butt stock. Colors range from a lighter color than yours to a deep mahogony color. I have had four but just have one now. All had different colors. I had one of the shorter stock versions. Never shot any. riceone
