Sunday Video Chat..

Post by DuncaninFrance » Sun May 24, 2020 4:36 pm

...has changed from Skype ( which is very unreliable ) to Cisco Webex pre-planned meetings.
These are by invitation and are every Sunday at 9:00 pm France time.
To participate in a video chat all you need to do is send Duncan your email address by PM and once added to the meeting info you will receiver an email with a link to that days meeting. You do NOT need to install any software.

For Robert.
Here are a couple of screenshots I took tonight which show you how you appear to everyone else in the call.

For Joe, Eoin, petern2, Vern, Walt and others, please consider this easier and more reliable facility, we would welcome you to the chat. :D :D :D

Current regulars are; Niner, Archfluffy, Bolomic1, Duncaninfrance, plus a couple of others from outside this forum.

Last night 3 of us used Zoom to chat and it was much better than Skype.
I suggest that we do the same next Sunday. :D :D

There was the second, maybe third, Zoom chat this past Sunday. First for me. Works a little differently than Skype, but very similar. Skype has been trying to catch up to multiple people display and isn't quite there yet unless you have a half dozen people online at the same time. Here are some snaps of the Zoom chat.

ZOOM is a much more stable platform I think and the images seem sharper to me.
Robert McW and I use it all the time now.
On Saturdays the British Militaria Forums 'Cocktail Hour and chat' has around 14 participants and lasts about 2 hours!
Participants from England, Scotland, France, Holland, Canada, US and Australia so far!

The important thing was the regulars showed up and there weren't any hitches that weren't caused by ignorance of the controls. Those missteps were corrected in the learning process. One of the big pluses to this new chat adventure is that more people may be friendly to Zoom than Skype because it doesn't require any kind of "membership" and special desktop link. Duncan and Robert have the memberships.

You do have to have a join link sent by Duncan and a computer video camera. That's as simple as it can get. So... if you are afraid of Skype pm Duncan and tell him you want the invite link. We'd like to see what you look like and hear what you had to say about any subject that comes up from your own point of view wherever you are in this world.

Speaking of wherever... in the photo I last posted the locations include: two from Scotland and one each from France, Alabama, South Dakota and Florida. The time zones were pretty broad with the European guys talking five or more hours different from the guys in the US.
