Russian cleaning kit

Things a soldier would carry other than firearms, ammo, or uniforms. Meaning equipment such as ammo pouches, bayonets, holsters, oil cans, cleaning equipment, etc.

Russian cleaning kit

Post by Dutch Mosin » Sun Oct 06, 2013 12:47 pm

Bought an all metal Russian cleaning kit from a Dutch collector last week.
I'm not sure , but I think this cleaning kit is connected to the Mosin Nagant.
Any suggestions are more than welcome.

I have seen these on pictures and in books only.
Need some info on the markings on the screw driver too.

Some pictures:

That's different. The usual issue kit...at least the ones that come with the usual Nagant purchase in the US... looks a little different. The screw driver is wedge shaped and there is no tube storage handle. Dutch Mosin's looks more like an SKS or AK cleaning kit....but only more like. Never seen one exactly like that one before.

You are right Robert, it looks very much like the SKS or AK style tubular cleaning kits.
I don’t own one of these so I can’t post a picture of it for comparence.
I do know that the SKS/AK tubular cleaning kits are smaller.
They are about as big as the screwdriver and brush that fit in the tube.

Here’s a poster of a Mosin Nagant and accoutrements that shows the tubular Mosin Nagant cleaning kit.

I borrowed this picture from the internet.
Got one myself at home.
I’ll post a close up picture of it this evening.
Should be later this afternoon on your side of the pond.

I don’t know why, but I totally overlooked this cleaning kit.
Found it.
Question is answered.
It’s a M91/30 cleaning kit produced between 1930 and 1941.
Here’s the link.

Correct, that is a fantastic site Joe.
You can find almost anything that is related to the Mosin Nagant in there.
Made another picture with a 7.62x54R cartridge so you can see how big this cleaning kit is.

I'm very happy that I found this item.
It's the first accoutrement I bought in a long time.
Makes my collection more complete.

Here is a photo of a SKS cleaning kit. I put a Nagant screwdriver and a standard 7.62x54r in the photo to show size. The point is to show the relatively larger size of the kit Martin has for the Mosin Nagant.
