Can frosting be cleened up

Post by speared um » Sun Sep 28, 2003 10:19 pm

I'm interested in a mil surp with a frosted bore with sharp rifling. Could it be cleaned and turned into a good shooter?

How do you repair a frosted bore?

No repair, what's done is done. Don't worry about it, it will shoot fine as it is.

dark bore cleaning

Post by speared um » Mon Oct 20, 2003 11:33 am

Is a dark bore caused from coper foiling, or rust and /or both problems?

Are there any fixes around, or just clean the bore as normal and just fire at will?

You will probably see increased fouling because the frosting and blackness is actually increased roughness and light pitting. I've seen some significant improvement in one of my rifles just by shooting and cleaning it. This process seems to lap out the bore slightly and while it will never be perfect, the process does make them much better shooters. Try a couple hundred rounds over a number of shooting sessions and you'll see improvement. Rich
