The Albanian replacement stock

Post by Niner » Sun Nov 30, 2003 6:43 pm

I got one of those AIM Albanian specials that came with the extra stock because the existing stock was "used" to say the least.

What I got to start with is this. Note that the replacement stock is a different color wood and that the only handguard is the one on the rifle, and of a red tint.

I decided to try replacing the stock. First I removed as much stain as possible from the replacement stock and the handguard. Then I stained both pieces with a "Red Oak" stain, as that was pretty close to the original color. Then came several coats of Tung oil.

The hard part was fitting the stock screw. I didn't have the proper tool, so I made one with two wire nails and the help of a dremel to cut the heads off of the nails. Note how the "nut" end unscrews but that the slot end of the bolt has stops under it to bite into the wood.

The butt piece and the swivel required a little fitting and sanding as did the nose of the stock. But it came out pretty well.
