Carcano M41

Post by PeterN2 » Tue Apr 01, 2008 1:59 pm

I have now got my Carcano M41 rifle. It was made by Terni in 1942. It is in very nice condition with a bright bore with sharp rifling. I have got a bayonet to go with it, also made at Terni. I bought 90 rounds of military ammo from the same dealer. This is various vintages and headstamps dated from 1935 onwards. It is almost an instant Carcano ammo collection.

Anyway, a few pics.

The rear sight is different. It folds down into the cut out in the forestock to expose the battle sight.

It is an interesting rifle. I am looking forward to shooting it.

Good Looking example

I have one too with FAT 41 on the receiver. Stock not nearly as good a condition as yours. I've never fired mine. Looks like new ammo runs about $1.65 a round. Since I only paid $62.50 for the rifle I hesitate to fire ammo that expensive through it.. I do have one of the empty clips that someone had given me somewhere. Is your ammo on clips?

Good bore

Post by PeterN2 » Tue Apr 01, 2008 3:37 pm

The bore is clean and has sharp rifling. It looks hardly used. The ammo was loose though I have five clips that I use with the 7.35mm Carcano M38. I will look out for more clips as the ones I have don't feed too good.

I paid alot more than $62.50 for my rifle but they are not common here, in fact this is the first one I have seen.

Very nice Peter, any chance of some pics of the ammo and clips too?

Look forward to a shooting report also :D

You can certainly sniff out some nice bits of kit,

6.5x52 ammo

Here is a few pics of some of the ammo I bought. Out of the 90 rounds, two had the silver cupro nickel(?) jacket and the rest were copper jacket. The bullet is 162 grains in weight according to my book. The headstamp marks are raised characters in a groove.

We'll be expecting a report after you get a chance to shoot some of that ammo.
