I read it in a newspaper from a hundred years ago

This is the place for thoughts that you want to share about nearly anything that comes to mind. Politics is ok as well. All notions and opinions are the view of the poster and not this site. Just remain civil in whatever you wish to express.

When I see BLM, the first thing I think of is Bureau of Land Management. They are a big deal in the
western US as they manage the public land owned by the federal government, which is about 1/8th of
the countries land mass. There seems to always be someone or group unhappy with the way things
are being run and often in the news. Although lately they have been on the back burner to virus, race, and
politics. And I think the original BLM is more important than the new BLM, at least to me.......

Now days we have the FBI, CIA, Homeland Security and God knows what else. Lots of secret stuff and black sites and waterboarding and internet sabotage agents and no telling what other secret special agents doing who knows what to knows who for who knows why. Back a hundred years ago there was apparently this guy:

Considering it looks in the photo like he is wearing lipstick he may be the first LGBTQ chief spy. Of course J Edgar Hoover that came along shortly afterward, and was known to dress up in women's clothes, kept the ball rolling for the FBI and equal opportunity employment. :loco:

Fleeing felon shot in the back... at least he was running away and not likely to have turned around to be shot in the front. Doesn't say he was armed. This was a hundred years ago. A preacher with a prohibition badge, newly minted obviously, was in charge and approved apparently. A license to kill was granted to all law enforcement apparently. Good thing the guy wasn't black....the newspaper would have noted if he was. With the name of Jacob Bernstein it could have been a case of Jewish lives matter though. Nobody was thinking anybody's life mattered a hundred years ago.

In the US nowadays we have protests and marches over systemic racism and civil injustice along with occasional rioting and destruction inflamed by anger and criminality. Most of the protest and discord is aimed at big city police forces...and occasionally federal law enforcement sent in ostensibly to protect federal property. A hundred years ago in Ireland they had a much larger and more active problem.

Six of one and half a dozen of the other..............No time for any of that 'history'.

Good thing France didn't have Prohibition a century ago. A hundred years ago a California beauty queen traveled to Washington to dub President Wilson "Knight of the Raisin". Looks like the young lady "danced" with a few royal princes. And we know Jeffrey Epstein wasn't even born yet so he had nothing to do with it.

Back a hundred years ago a 74 year old was really old. When one got married at that age he was a story in the newspaper. Now days we have two such fossils running for President. Biden will be 78 next month and Trump is 74.
