I read it in a newspaper from a hundred years ago

This is the place for thoughts that you want to share about nearly anything that comes to mind. Politics is ok as well. All notions and opinions are the view of the poster and not this site. Just remain civil in whatever you wish to express.

The more things change the more they remain the same. Must have been budget time in the US Congress a hundred years ago ....like now. Half billion or so to Israel to use for defensive hardware against potential retaliation from Iran for Israel murdering Iranian nuclear scientists now days or selling billions of dollars worth of military high tech equipment to Saudi Arabia, etc.

Back a hundred years ago today Woodrow Wilson turned down money for writing his story. Meanwhile today, Obama is making millions for his latest book ....just part one.

We all know how Trump thinks he is as good at knowing a good cure when he sees one. He bragged he was as smart as a doctor since he is related to one. Remember the pills he was pushing early on in the pandemic that later turned out to be worthless? Well... he wasn't the dumbest President in home remedies apparently..... if you believe Wilson actually was promoting this idea for hiccups.

A hundred years ago Harding didn't want a lot of fanfare at his swearing in ceremony. It was a pretty cheap affair as such go. By contrast modern inaugurations are big shindigs. Sheldon Adelson, who died yesterday, is said to have kicked in over 5 million for the Trump inauguration.

In the US we talk about freedom of speech but it doesn't always play out that way when someone is caught saying something that ruffles feathers. Recently a golfer, upset with a golf swing, said something that sounded anti gay and it was picked up on a microphone. God knows what he said, the press doesn't report it. He lost some sponsors and was chest fallen and repentatent.

“It’s not a word I use,” Thomas said Wednesday, referring to the slur he blurted out when missing a 5-foot par putt on the fourth hole of Sentry Tournament of Champions, “but for some reason it was in there and that’s what I’m trying to figure out — why it was in there.

“And like I said, it’s going to be part of this process and training program, whatever I need to do, not only to prove to myself but to prove to my sponsors and prove to the people who don’t know who I am that that is indeed not the person I am.” AP.

Back a hundred years ago you could end up in jail for insulting the moral climate in a town in Texas. You can't go insulting the self imaged moral fabric of the community....then or now. The Seattle Star from this date a hundred years ago.

Not all the American soldiers ...Over There... were completely honest when they were trying to get close to the natives of the pretty female kind.
