Re: THE FIRST WORLD WAR as reported in the daily news
A hundred years ago, in 1922, Germany was struggling to pay the reparations. Some countries were in favor of giving them some slack. France, nearly bankrupt themselves, weren't feeling that way.

Re: THE FIRST WORLD WAR as reported in the daily news
Germany opposes the Russian invasion and promised Ukraine some defensive missiles. However , Germany is Russia's strongest European trading partner. The interrupted Nordstrum pipeline was a joint German and Russian venture. Germany gets it's energy from Russia. Germany probably hates the Russian Ukraine invasion more than any other country because they depend on Russian supplied energy. But for Germany, cutting off Russia is like disconnecting life support in the hospital because you don't like the electric company.

So much for promises. If I remember correctly the first support that was going to gifted was not because it was moldy and wouldn't work properly. Then they were going to supply tanks and didn't and then the with held funding that was promised...........with support like that who needs enemies?

Re: THE FIRST WORLD WAR as reported in the daily news
The war is well over in November of 1922. However, working out the reparations and Germany's current status are causing some finger pointing around what the armistice agreement was about and the US is getting some flack from European journalists that famous writer Rudyard Kipling.

Re: THE FIRST WORLD WAR as reported in the daily news
I did some reading on this and it was bizarre. There were Bonds and "Plans" in the 1920s and '30s that were different ways
that Germany was to pay the Allies. In the end it took Germany until the 1990s to pay everything off. It turns out that
the US loaned Germany a LOT of money back then to rebuild, and they used that to pay back some the the other Allies, who in turn
used that same money to pay their war debts to the US. So basically the US got paid back with their own money, crazy times. .....

Peace is that brief, quiet moment in history.......... when everybody stands around reloading.
Re: THE FIRST WORLD WAR as reported in the daily news
First time I noticed Hitler mentioned in the US news. A hundred years ago today the French were in the industrial Ruhr region of Germany locking up banks, and confiscating bank patron's money, arresting coal mine owners, confiscating coal and anything else that wasn't nailed down, all in the name of squeezing out reparations from a prostrate Germany suffering from rocketing inflation.
Hitler will end up arrested for his troubles and ends up in prison where he writes his famous Mein Kampf.
Ironically, I just noticed on the news that today is Holocaust remembrance day.
