They buried him among the kings because he

The statistics on death, wounding, dismemberment, and blinding in WWI reported for US casualties summed up in December of 1920.

The war is over but the surplus canned beef remains. So...at Merry Christmas time Uncle Sam was pushing the Corned Beef. An advertisement with the wholesale costs and a message to consumers that they can buy from local merchants and know if they are getting a deal based on Government prices. The obvious play is for some grocery concerns or others to make the 20% discount purchase to allow for more of a margin of profit on markup.

Once upon a time back in the early 1970's during some kind of recession, or something like, the government was giving away free stockpiled cheese that the government had been buying and storing to keep the price of dairy products up. I knew a rich guy who went down and got in line for some. Said it was the best he ever tasted. I took his word for it. A hundred years the government wasn't so generous....no welfare nor any food stamps either. However they would offer a recipe for corn beef and cabbage.

Here's a story about hard times for the veterans in London during Christmas of 1920. Why would they sing a song about Peaches in Georgia? Have no idea. I found a youtube version of the song strangely enough.

As so Germany gets the fine. They have 42 years to pay. That would have been ending in 1962 if it all went as planned by the allies. Easy yearly payments of a lot of money and if they don't pay..... well....all sorts of bad things will happen. Only really bad thing that happened was that before the payment schedule got to the halfway mark there was this thing called WWII.
