OPERATION FRANKTON CEREMONY, BEAUNAC

On Saturday 18th December I participated in a ceremony at the small hamlet of Beaunac in Charente at a
memorial that commemorates 3 villagers who assisted Hasler and Sparks to avoid capture by the Germans but
were betrayed and arrested. They were deported and never returned.

In total 8 villagers were arrested and taken to Angoulême
The memorial and plaque honours the courage of the inhabitants of Beaunac who helped the fugitives and
the memory of Lucien Gody, Maurice Rousseau and René Rousseau who died in deportation.
They are indirectly the only French civilian victims to die as a result of Operation Frankton.

Also attending were three resistance re enactors complete with an immaculate 1937 Peugeot 402 Longue.

After the ceremony a most agreeable lunch was taken at the BILBOQUET Restaurant at AIGRE
