I first saw a German give the palm forward salute when watching a training film as a young soldier, in it was footage of Rommel in the desert and as he gets out of his car he returns the salutes, naturally we asked our officer why Rommel used our salute.
That’s when I first heard of Prince Albert’s contribution.
Years later I was watching a documentary on Nazi Germany and in it the Generals come down a staircase by twos and salute Hitler, two after two give the Nazi salute until Rommel and his offsider, one gives the straight arm but Rommel gives the palm out military salute. It stood out a mile.(Rommel was not a party member)

Incidentally the Irish Army uses the palm down salute, presumably because they didn’t want to appear too English, whereas………..
Self Defence is not only a Right, it is an Obligation.
