$2000 P51 flight turned into more than expected

Post by Niner » Mon Feb 27, 2012 1:15 pm

Noticed in the local paper this morning that a guy plunking down two grand for a flight in a P51 got a longer flight than he bargained for yesterday. And.... an old 90 year old former P51 pilot had to be called to suggest some things to do to correct a problem that developed.

Well he certainly got his 2 grands worth on that flight, it's good to see everything turned out right in the end.

I would love to have seen that B29 flying there too, i would have been haunting that airfield with my cameras for the duration. :D

Joe, they would have had to have paid me at least 2 grand to go up in that 66 plus years old airplane to start with. But.. if I were that guy who paid the 2 K to go up in it for a thrill I'd have asked for my money back for the extra added adventure. Of course it's all in the way you think of things I guess. Probably just added value to that guy that paid for the ticket....since it didn't crash.

They didn't call just any old P-51 pilot, they called Bob Hoover, a true legend in avaition circles, both military and civilian.

If it had been me in the P-51, I wouldn't ask for my money back, I would have gotten a couple more free rides out of them.

I went for a ride in WWII B-24 bomber and loved it, wasn't $2000, but it wasn't free either.
There aren't many WWII (or other kind) planes I wouldn't go up in.

I'm with you Vern, i would jump on any of those big piston warbirds for a flight. :D

On the jet side i would love a joyride in the English Electric Lightning or a Hawker Hunter.

I'm with you guys..........................I remember being at an air show at RAF Finningly in the late 60's when a Lightening did a turn. It took off, circled the field once then almost stood on it's tail and went into orbit :D :D FANTASTIC............it emptied the beer tent in a flash   :GBR:

....................with exclamations of WTFWT  I can assure you!

There used to be one in a scrapyard very near to the A1 around Newark (I think) which I remember passing many times. It was always covered in graffiti......................
