The end of an era!!
After soldiering on for 57 years the last active duty Army Huey's
have flown their last mission.

They take their place in history along side Hiram Maxim's machine gun and Heinz Gudarian's panzers as machines and tactics that changed the world of the foot soldier forever.

Re: The end of an era!!
I think the German army are still useing them, in June i saw a pair flying up and down the Rhine on a couple of days near Bad Hönningen and i am sure they carried Bundeswehr markings.

Re: The end of an era!!
There have been more than one era ending flights of the Huey. Back eight years ago at my other site a guy I know. and had served with, took a veterans ride on one that was flying cross country on its way to the Smithsonian for display. He put a patch I had given him, that I had extra from Vietnam, on the cover inside it. I didn't give it to him for that purpose....but that's what he did with it. I wonder if it is still there inside the chopper at the Smithsonian?

Yep, got a lot of hours in a Huey. 7 weeks as a door gunner and then 7 CAs as a grunt.
We still have a few flying around here, but they are from the air farce academy. There are 2 or 3 flying in Cheyenne, Wyo - also hair farce.
