I cooked some ribs on the BBQ tonight. The thought crossed my mind of the term "spare ribs" and I wasn't sure what that meant as a name. It wasn't like a pig had some spare ones he didn't need. Then I looked it up.
Baby back ribs come from the parts of the ribs that are connected to the backbone, beneath the loin muscle, and are curved where the meet the spine. ... Spare ribs are cut from the ends of baby back ribs and run along to the pig's breast bone.
I had "spare ribs" tonight.

I never knew what end they came from, but ribs are my favorites from either end......
