HELP NEEDED WITH 1886 LEBEL

The country that avoids war and the country that fights but has a hard time winning have been combined. The Swiss made some excellent firearms and the French made some unique and occasionally inspiring ones. We have added the Belgian and Dutch since they are neighbors.

HELP NEEDED WITH 1886 LEBEL

Post by deadin » Tue Sep 14, 2021 12:20 pm

I need someone with a Lebel and a micrometer or dial caliper…..
I have a Lebel that someone had sawed off the stacking rod just above the front band. I need some measurements so I can replicate a replacement.
I have seen what they are calling a replacement rod, but it doesn’t have the mushroom head of an original.

Needed: Overall length of rod. Can be either from the back of the front band or from the front of the band including the button.
Also need the diameter of the mushroom button at the tip of the rod.
I already have the threaded portion and the ‘base’ of the rod.

Measurements in decimal if possible (.001)

Duncan,

Yes, and no... I need the dimensions for just the rod. I already have the band. The rod screws into the band with, what I think, is a M5-1 thread. (Here a 12-24, for all intents, is the same.)

I've got one French rifle....and it isn't a Lebel.

We used to have a guy here who went by the handle of "1886 lebel". He was a recognized expert on French arms and was writing a book on them at one time fifteen or so years ago. He was on all the messageboards and he did reenacting too and a moderator also on Gun Boards. He was even a moderator here in the hey day. But... he was upset about something and left never to be heard from again.

I wish I had a Lebel. I have been looking for one but I have not found one that was in decent condition and priced cheap enough.
Regards
Peter.
