The Remington Arms company made them for the US forces...and probably the British as well. However, since the Germans found the the use of them a war crime and had vowed to kill any captured soldier with one or even ammo for one there was a potential war crimes accusation problem. The US subsequently hid, destroyed, forbid any photos of front line troops having a trench gun even though they told the Germans that they were full of it as they were only upset because they hadn't thought of it first.

However these guns weren't all that great in the rain. Wet paper shells full of buckshot would swell and make the guns one shot and done. When used in optimum conditions they must have cleared a trench pretty well. The war department balked at expensive brass shell cases and nobody had invented plastic coating yet.

Not much different on the receiver end from a modern Remington 870 pump with a built in butt pad, better finish, button safety, etc.
